Without eye

Needles without an eye are used in flatlock machines. They do not carry any sewing thread. However, by inserting them into the thread triangle, more looper thread is introduced into the seam which increases the elasticity of the seam.

Shank notch

A shank notch is a recess in the shank that serves to precisely align the needle with the hook or looper. It also prevents the needle from being pulled out of the needle bar during the backward stroke. There are needles with one and needles with two shank notches.
